At First Hope Medical Clinic, we care for your family's needs. Our multispecialty clinic gives you access to an orthopedic surgeon, medical doctors, acupuncturists and chiropractors. We service the needs of those living in Santa Ana and the nearby Orange County areas of Huntington Beach and Anaheim. Our Chiropractic Care and Physiotherapy is gentle, non-invasive and typically the first go-to of treatment before we suggest surgery or medication. Our chiropractors are confident in the body's healing abilities and use their skills to position your spine for optimal healing. Injury recovery is possible with Chiropractic Care and Physiotherapy. We want to show you the benefits of this alternative medicine and the ways in which it boosts your overall health.
After evaluating your spine, our chiropractors use manual adjustments to reposition your vertebrae. The vertebrae are arranged in a way that allows you to bend forward, stand tall, twist, sit, stand, walk, run and move. The spine contains discs that are a cushion between the vertebrae so your movements are pain-free. If an injury occurs and the disc is leaking, you may feel pain, weakness, limited mobility or numbness. These symptoms also may occur if the vertebrae have slipped out of alignment. As a result of a herniated disc or slipped vertebrae, your nerves may be compressed. A gentle chiropractic adjustment with our doctor's hands sets the vertebrae into a more natural position. This allows the disc to return to its proper space and reduces pressure on the nerves. When nerve signals are flowing strong and circulation increases due to your aligned spine, your entire body feels better. Nutrients are able to get to the injured areas so healing occurs at the cellular level. Plus, your overall health improves as your body is functioning easily with less strain on your heart and other organs.
Our chiropractors improve your overall health and also help you recover faster from injuries. Many people seek Chiropractic Care and Physiotherapy for back pain or neck pain, but our doctors are also skilled in adjusting joints such as your hips, knees, shoulders and wrists. We assist in your recovery from conditions such as:
Lower back pain

As the table pulls and releases, a negative pressure change is created within the intervertebral disc, surrounding soft tissue and spinal joints. The reduction of pressure inside the disc (decompression) allows the disc bulge or herniation and the nutrients to be pulled back into the disc.
One of the clearest definitions of the role of chiropractic care under managed care comes from the American Chiropractic Association (ACA):
“Doctors of chiropractic (DCs) assess and manage patients with neuromusculoskeletal disorders and related clinical conditions including, but not limited to, back pain, neck pain, and headaches. When addressing patients needs, DCs utilize appropriate diagnostic procedures and conservative therapeutic interventions, with primary focus on spinal manipulation. As with other health care disciplines, chiropractic is committed to accountability and predictability in obtaining measurable outcomes. These would include, but are not limited to, pain, physical function, and patient satisfaction.” (Dobson 1997)
“Lower back problems affect virtually everyone at some time during his or her life. Surveys indicate a yearly prevalence of symptoms in 50 percent of working age adults; 15-20 percent seek medical care. Low back problems rank high among the reasons for physician office visits and are costly in terms of medical treatment, lost productivity, and nonmonetary costs such as diminished ability to perform or enjoy usual activities. In fact, for people under age 45, low back problems are the most common cause of disability.” (Bigos 19994)
The main therapeutic procedure performed by DCs is known as manipulation, also called chiropractic adjustment. DCs also utilize diagnostic procedures, including but not limited to physical examinations and x-rays when called for; physiotherapeutic modalities; and counseling of patients on appropriate lifestyle changes that could improve their musculoskeletal functioning, for example, exercises aimed at building flexibility, strength, and overall well-being. In addition, DCs have broad diagnostic skills and readily refer patients to the appropriate health care provider when chiropractic care is not suitable to the patient’s condition.
The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile due to tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improperly lifting a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo chemical changes that can cause both inflammation and pain for the sufferer. Manipulation of the joint restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and allowing tissues to heal.
Doctors of Chiropractic Medicine (DCs), also known as chiropractic physicians in some states, are licensed healthcare practitioners who have undergone a rigorous course of clinical and practical training. Before they are allowed to practice, DCs must pass national board exams and become state-licensed. Most states also require continuing education and yearly license renewal as well. DCs participating in managed care organizations are subject to the strict credentialing standards set by the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA).
